Mary Jo Rines - About the Artist
Mary Jo Rines is an experienced painter, constantly exploring new ideas and techniques. The luminous almost spiritual quality of her work has evolved from inner responses to the natural world. She works in both oils and watercolors.
Mary Jo graduated from Skidmore College with a focus in art and science. She continued her studies at the DeCordova Museum in Lincoln, Massachusetts and has taken many painting workshops with highly trained and innovative instructors. She taught Techniques of Watercolor from 1970 to 1995, and ran the Deep Cove Workshops from her studio on Southport Island, Maine. She has traveled throughout the world capturing images of other cultures and has escorted painting safaris in Kenya in 1986 and Kenya and Tanzania in 1998.
Mary Jo is on the executive board of the New England Watercolor Society and runs The Gallery At First Parish in Weston, Massachusetts.
Her work can be seen at The State of the Art Gallery in Jackson, NH. She exhibits with the New England Watercolor Society, The Copley Society of Art in Boston and at her studio in Weston, Massachusetts. In the summer her work can be seen at The Maine Art Gallery in Wiscasset, Maine. The Boothbay Region Art Foundation in Boothbay Harbor and at her studio on Southport Island, Maine.
